What The Best Sci Fi Books Should Try To Do Away

By Marylou Forbes

People who love to read will normally go for science fictions and fantasy genres. This is most likely because anything can happen in these stories. As long as the author makes the idea seem plausible, then it is a good story to pursue. It does not even matter if there are rules or no rules being followed for it.

It is actually more interesting for authors to break the rules when it comes to writing the best sci fi books. This is most likely because breaking the rules is the only way for a fascinating story to be told. For those who are interested in writing the story, here are some of the rules that must be broken.

If you are writing, there is the option for you of taking out the third party omniscient. You can just go ahead with the story without having to divulge what your characters are thinking about. Since the minds of these characters are not open for your readers to read, you can easily make a world where anything can happen.

Infodumps should be regulated. In fact, it is better if you avoid it. You should avoid dumping the readers loads of technical schematics and backstories that they may not be fond of. You should avoid having to dump information onto the throat of your readers as if it is a norm for them to go through.

It is also a good idea to break the idea that fantasies always have a trilogy. Or a fourth book, for that matter. It is actually interesting to find a book that is completed in just one book. Even if it is a science fiction or a fantasy story with a good premise behind it, you should still consider one book for all.

Try to create a plot where the story does not have to rely on a portal to have the fantasy take effect. Most of the fantasy stories these days take on the premise of having discovered portals or have accidentally fallen into portals before they are taken into a new world. If a world can be discovered without going through portals, then that should be good.

The same goes with the space travels and light travels. You should do your best to do away with these items in a science fiction story. Although it might really sound cool for the protagonist to warp speed and jump into hyperspaces, it should still be worth it to find a plot where there are no more need for space portals, time machines, or warping devices.

Instead of using magic as a vital part in science fictions, you might want to consider it as a minor part of the world. Do not just rely heavily on it when you want to write this genre. There is more to science fictions and fantasy stories than just the magic that you can produce from wands or with the wave of your fingers.

It is actually rare in the past to find stories written in the present tense. This is mostly because most of the writers think that it is really disconcerting to have present tense in stories. You can break this rule as much as any other rule for writing science fiction. If you can make it work, then go ahead with this.
