The Four Motivations Of Serial Killer Minds

By Marissa Velazquez

Experts tell us that three fourths of all serial killers live in America and most of them can be found in the state of California. They also tell us that until they are caught or killed they will continue to kill. There are cool down periods that they go through but those periods become shorter in length as the killings continue. They cannot be picked out from a crowd and blend into society as easily as you or anyone else. Because of these factors the public wants to know what motivates serial killer minds.

Nobody really knows what is in the mind of anyone else but the FBI has classified these killers into four distinct groups. The visionary has audio hallucinations of some higher authority telling him to kill specific people. The voices are usually godly or demonic in origin and can come from inside or outside of the subjects head.

Those who are on a mission are said to feel as though they are cleaning up the community by killing specific types of people. They have deemed these people to be unworthy and in need of removal from society. The killer can focus on any type of group or individual whether it is street people, religious sects or social organizations.

A hedonistic killer enjoys the pain and fear he generates in his victims. This is most likely why the kid who tortures animals begins what can be a brutal lifestyle. Hedonistic killers are separated into three distinct groups. They are lust, thrill and comfort killers.

Sexual gratification is the goal of the lust driven subject. He derives sexual pleasure from inflicting enormous amounts of pain through torture and eventual death of his victims. Because it is so exciting to this type of murderer they will generally use a weapon that allows them to be up close and personal. A knife, garrote or their hands is preferred. They become more violent as time passes and the needed stimulus increases.

The thrill killers are driven by the adrenalin rush they get from the fear they can generate when torturing and killing their victims. These kills are usually quick and the person attacked is a stranger. This perpetrator can go for long periods between kills and sometimes works to perfect his technique and commit the perfect crime.

A comfort killer operates out of greed. They will kill for money and security. Family members are generally the target but some have killed boarders or people in their care. The weapon of choice will generally be poison or drug overdoses.

Media killers are those who choose to lay the blame for their behaviors at society's feet. They claim that they were led astray by watching the violence in movies or on television. Some also blame violent pornographic material that is so available for what they have done. Serial killer minds are fertile areas for blame once they have been captured. Studying them can give some of the answers people seek but the experts must rely on the information to be true and correct. The real question would be why their brothers and sisters, who were brought up in the same atmosphere are not also killers.
