Covington La Home Inspection Tips

By Jennifer Myers

Property owners need to have their properties assessed after very few years. The Covington la home inspection allows you to know of all problems that could be present in your house. If looking to sell the residence, you can use the report to commission repairs. It can also help you know which areas are likely to cause problems over the next few months.

Many assessments start by checking the exterior part of the residence. Here, your assessor will start by assessing the roof. A ladder is needed in order to get access to the top most parts of your roof. He will check whether it is leaking, and also make sure that all the shingles are in place.

Your gutters are also checked while he is still at the top. For the gutters, one needs to confirm that they are firmly attached to the sidings. There is also a need to establish the direction the sprouts are pointing to. They should not be facing the foundation.

Determine the state of the gutters attached to the house. Gutters are easy to inspect as all one has to do is make certain they are firmly attached, and also determine whether there is any debris in them. When debris is present, it becomes hard for the rain water to drain off with ease.

The foundation supports the entire weight of a house. If anything was to happen to it, the entire house would start to disintegrate. One is therefore required to check it for the presence of cracks. Cracks are a good indication that the ground beneath this residence has started to shift, and as such, something has to be done to rectify this situation.

A foundation assessment is also required. When it comes to accessing a foundation, it becomes important for one to pay attention to the state that the foundation is in. The foundation is responsible for maintaining the entire weight of your house. You must therefore take note of anything that appears out of place.

Once the exteriors have all been checked, the next step is to head inside your house. Stop at the front entrance to check whether it has any signs of weathering. A white powdery substance is present at the bottom of each door where weathering has started to occur.

As you move from room to room, make sure to also check the floors and the ceiling. For floors, pay attention to any signs of wear and tear on your carpet. For the ceilings, establish whether there are any stain marks. Stain marks are an indication that the present roof is leaking and should be sealed.

Do not forget to assess the cooking area. Kitchens play an important role in each and every house. When assessing the cooking area, one has to check the plumbing system as well as the cabinet doors. Confirm that the plumbing system is working properly and that taps are not leaking.

Before starting the assessment, you may need to make a decision on whether to hire a home inspector or not. Hiring an inspector guarantees that a professional report will be generated. This report can then be handed to any buyer who wants to buy your house, in case you do decide to sell it.
