By George Dodson

We all like to go out and eat. We all have our most favorite restaurants that truly match our taste. Most of the time, the prices are right and they have specials that enhance the dining experience.

There are a lot of restaurants and eateries that you always like to visit. You can choose any of the restaurants that offer special breakfasts or lunches. Some restaurants only have dinner options. Lunch is served in some of the restaurants. Some have been in business for a long time. Others are upstarts.

One of the more famous restaurants is IHOP. Established in 1958, the first store of IHOP was opened in Toluca Lake, California. The parent company of IHOP, DineEquity Inc has outlets in 49 states, Mexico and Canada. It has become one of the favorite family restaurants. It offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

How to start an IHOP franchise?

You need to have at least 1.5 million which is close to $500,000 to start a franchise. Basic business experience is needed to get the approval. The company no longer helps you to finance your franchise. So if you do not have all of the cash for the franchise fee, be prepared to talk to a bank.

Once you are approved, you will be brought to the main office for training while the store is still in construction. Strict guideline are followed while constructing the store. The store needs to have place for 185 people. The area population should be between 25,000 to 50,000. Your lot size must be about 40,000 to 50,000 square feet if it stands alone and 10,000 to 20,000 square feet if it is part of a shopping or grocery establishment. Your customers should get enough parking space.

Owning an IHOP franchise is a good idea if you have both business and restaurant experience. If you meet all the requirements you will get the necessary training. You will get help from the chain in the areas of food and training. The employees need to be hired by you. It helps that the chain provides employment application templates, but you will have to interview them.
