The word poetry refers to a collection of other literary works of art that are compiled by artists. They are used to bring out emotions, feelings and expressions of the author, who may decide to speak it or write it down. Different people use different writing techniques. In Lds poetry, poems are the most referred to work of art.

A poet may decide to sing or recite a poem. Ideally, it depends on the artist who came up with the composition. Those which are sung are called songs. Songs are preferred by the audience as they are easier to understand thus remember. The person reciting a poem needs to be very well conversant with the communication skills involved. These include tonal variation and gestures.

Poetry is distinguished from prose through the use of more complex concepts. These include the use of idiomatic expressions, metaphorical sentences and similes. Also, repetition of words and sentences creates rhythm and harmony, which clearly distinguishes this literary works from prose compositions. There is heavy use of aesthetic language and connotations like imagery, consonance, alliteration and assonance.

Art work of this form type in various forms. Descriptive poetry is where the poet vividly describes an object or a person. This may be a naturally forming process, or an object on a landscape, or a still image. The object is considered the main point of interest and not an accessory as it would be in other instances. One may decide to talk about the season of winter, or the rose flower. These types of poems are however considered boring, and most of them do not carry much content.

The reflective kind is composed to open up the mind of the artist to the audience. They attempt to relay the feelings, thoughts and emotions of the writer in expressive forms. This is usually in comparison to visually available and accessible features. This boosts the understanding of the audience.

This kind of work is mostly made for children. Children, especially those in their developmental stage are visual beings. They therefore, relate more with objects they can see and touch. Abstract concepts may easily confuse them and prompt them to lose interest in the subject. The use of foods, colours and toys is highly recommended in such instances to pass across a certain idea.

An elegy is classified according to the type of tone in which it is relayed. It is mostly used in funerals and has a melancholic mood to it. Heroes and their heroic acts can also be subjects of certain pieces. These are either called ballads or epics. Other pieces have to have a certain number of lines and stanzas to be classified. These are sonnets, odes or limericks.

Since there is need to motivate, inspire and creatively relay ideas and information, literature value Lds poetry. In this respect, many forums are created entirely for such purposes. These include open mic sessions where new and existing artists are encouraged to present their works. Also, social platforms like Facebook and Twitter have taken up the role of exchanging creative compositions.
